The US distribution entity of British stroller manufacturer Maclaren and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a voluntary recall of approximately one million umbrella-style baby strollers on November 9, 2009 after 12 children lost fingers to uncovered hinges.
The affected Maclaren models, for single or double occupancy, include Volo, Triumph, Quest Sport, Quest Mod, Techno XT, TechnoXLR, Twin Triumph, Twin Techno and Easy Traveler.
The recalled Maclaren strollers were sold at Babies “R” Us, Target, and other retailers nationwide from 1999 through November 2009. Purchase prices ranged from $100 to $360.
Consumers of the affected strollers were urged to stop use immediately and to contact Maclaren USA for free repair kit, which journalists claim includes protective hinge covers. To submit your request, call Maclaren USA at 877-688-2326 between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Eastern Time Monday through Friday or visit their website www.MaclarenBaby.com
